Valladolid regularly climb to La Liga, but rarely stay there for long. In 2023, they were relegated again. But in the Segunda, under the guidance of Paulo Pezzolano, who took over in the spring, they secured 2nd place and earned direct promotion back to La Liga. However, once at the higher level, things once again haven't gone well. They started with an optimistic 1-0 win over fellow promoted side Espanyol, but that victory remains their only one in the league. They added scoreless draws in their next home games against Leganés and Real Sociedad, but everything else has been losses — including a 0-7 thrashing by Barcelona, and three consecutive 1-2 defeats to Sevilla (away), Mallorca, and Rayo Vallecano. As a result, they now sit second-to-last in the table.
Alavés has a good record in this matchup, winning all of the last three encounters. It’s hard to believe Valladolid will suddenly improve and manage even a draw. We expect the home side to take the win here.
