AC Milan vs Bologna Prediction 9 May 2025

AC Milan take on the visitors Bologna in the round 36 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Friday, April 9th at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) (Milan).

Milan will clearly have their minds on the next match. The Rossoneri, or more precisely their management, followed through last year on their plan to part ways with Pioli. And indeed, things have changed — just for the worse. After another failed managerial stint under Paulo Fonseca, he was replaced in winter by Sérgio Conceição. To his credit, he immediately beat both Juventus and Inter to win the Supercoppa, and after another emphatic 3-0 derby win in April, took Milan to the Coppa Italia final. On the flip side, Milan exited the Champions League already in February under the new coach after a disappointing tie against Feyenoord. And in Serie A, despite improving in spring, they remain well below expectations — a top-four finish now looks out of reach, and even qualifying for Europe is not guaranteed. That said, recent results have been better, including a tight 1-0 win over Genoa. Conceição seems to have stabilized the team defensively, though they remain blunt in attack.

Bologna are navigating an unusually packed schedule. They hadn’t qualified for European football in years, but under Thiago Motta they finished fifth in 2023/2024, earning a historic Champions League spot. Unfortunately, their European campaign fell flat, as they had no real chance of advancing past the group stage. But they’ve found excellent domestic form to make up for it. Not only did they reach the Coppa Italia final, but in Serie A, they are exceeding expectations once again — and are very much in the fight for a top-four spot. In their most recent league outing, they hosted direct rival Juventus. A hard-fought 1-1 draw kept their hopes alive. The team’s consistency and resilience have been major talking points in Italy this season.

Milan had gone 17 games unbeaten against Bologna, dominating the matchup for years. But in December, the Rossoblù finally broke that run with a 2-1 away win. This is seen as a nearly even contest, with only a slight edge given to Milan due to home advantage. Still, don’t expect fireworks — we’re backing under 2.5 total goals.

Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 scored goals.
