Bologna were a sensation two seasons ago. They managed to climb to 5th place, which was enough to qualify for the Champions League. But Thiago Motta left, and their key players were sold. As expected, they struggled in Europe — failing to get past the play-off stage. They also slid back into mid-table in domestic competition. Bologna have shown good defensive organization under Italiano, conceding just once in their first two league matches. If they can maintain that discipline, they could again challenge for a spot in European competitions.
