Venezuela meets Peru in round 1 of Copa America. The match will be played on Saturday, June 15th at Arena do Grêmio (Porto Alegre)
Venezuela has a number of problems. The World Cup Qualifiers 2018 was failed (the team took the last place and let even Bolivia take the lead). There is a frankly unpleasant situation in the country (we will not bother with the nuances), and there were problems even with the strip – the technical sponsor made crimson wear instead of maroon one for Venezuela.

Nevertheless, this team sometimes manage to spring surprises. It often succeeds in it because of bright players in the attack (José Salomon Rondon immediately comes to mind). The fact that he is the main star of Venezuela says a lot: this team plays rather simplified football. Precisely because of the ability to integrate into such a system, Rondon was called to Newcastle United last season, where Rafael Benitez chose a very simplified style because of the fact that he was driven to the wall - Michael Ashley didn’t want to reinforce the squad.
Peru showed a fairly good result at the World Cup in Russia: the team was very unlucky with Denmark because everyone remembers the penalty of Christian Cueva. Peru played very well with France (while France scored a goal due to individual skills of a number of players, and then the French simply closed in the penalty area), and the Peruvians deserved at least 1 point in that meeting. Still, they won Australia, but that victory, unfortunately, did not help Peruvians in terms of the struggle to get out of the group.
Since then, the squad of the Peru national team has not changed very much. The same coach (Ricardo Gareca) has remained, and the team will most likely play the same attractive and brave football that it has played before.
Some might say that Copa America is a bad tournament, but this is not the case at all. There is always a place for tactically advanced teams (Uruguay and Brazil), and there are some very brave teams like Peru. Speaking of courage, just remember Euro 2016...
Well, as for the match, Peru stands out on the background of Venezuela. The Peruvians have a more well-knit squad, and the style of the game looks much more holistic than that of the Venezuelans. Therefore, in my opinion, the team of Peru is the favorite.
Prediction for the match: Peru to win
