Vardar take on the visitors Pyunik at the Philip II Arena in the second leg match of UEFA Europa League 1st qualifying round. The match will be played in Skopje on Thursday, July 19th. The first leg match ended with a 1-0 win for Pyunik.
Last season Vardar was able to take the second place in their local championsip with 56 points to their credit and 53-41 goal difference. This summer the Macedonians had 4 friendly matches (a 2-1 win against Domzale, a 3-3 draw against Maribor, a 0-1 loss to Orenburg and a 2-4 loss to Balzan). The European football season started with a 0-1 loss in Armenia for Vardar. So the team`s condition is not perfect at the moment. Talking about their home crowd performances this year Vardar have played 10 games at their stadium in 2018, recording 3 victories in only three of them, drew 2 times and suffered 5 defeats.

Pyunik was an unbeatable team ten years ago in Armenia. Nowadays the team can only dream about something like that. Last season they had only 36 points after 30 matches in their local championship, a negative 37-41 goal difference and finished the season on the fifth place. They got to the European scene only because of the problems in Shirak SC but started their European season with a win in front of their home crowd which is a good sign. Pyunik had 7 away matches in 2018 and didn`t get a single victory on the field (2 draws, 4 defeats and 1 technical win).
Both teams are competitive in their national leagues but it`s unlikely they will shine on the European scene. Considering Pyunik`s bad away match statistics Vardar is the favourite of the second leg match.
Prediction for the match: Vardar to win.
