Varbergs take on the visitors Orgryte at “Paskbergsvallen” in the closing match of the opening round of the Sweden Superettan. The game will be played in Varberg on Tuesday, April 3rd.
Varbergs completely failed last season, having settled just on the 11th position in the standings while two years ago they reached the third place. Moreover, the club finished last season sitting ahead of its upcoming rival (which had to fight for saving its place in the Superettan) only because of the tiebreaker. However, despite all their problems in this season, Varbergs still skilfully use the home-field factor, having got nine triumphs and only two defeats in 15 clashes conducted in face of their fans. The team participated in five encounters during the pre-season pause, including three battles within the Svenska Cupen against Goteborg 0:1, Sirius 2:1 and Osters 1:2. The latest bitter failure didn’t allow the club to qualify from the group. Varbergs followed tackles in the Svenska Cupen with two more games resulted in 2:2 draw against Utsiktens and a confident 4:1 victory over Oddevold.

Only last season Orgryte managed to return to the Superettan, but could relegate to the Division 1 after a year as “Sallskapet” had settled on the 13th place in the standings and was forced to save its place in the Superettan through the relegation Play Offs. And that two-leg battle against Mjallby has turned into a real drama. After 1:2 failure on the road, Orgryte had been 0:1 behind by the middle of the first half, but managed to labour a victory in the extra time. As a result of that incredible recovery, the club has seriously prepared to the new season. Orgryte conducted six clashes during the pre-season break, having earned four wins and two losses in them. It should be noted that the side participated only in two away tackles against Goteborg and Elfsborg, having failed both of them. However, those weak results at away pitches are not unexpected in previous season Orgryte deserved a single victory and 9-29 goal difference in 15 encounters played on the road within the Superettan.
Varbergs hosted four head-to-heads against Orgryte, having got two triumphs and two draws in them. Varbergs successfully use the home-field advantage while Orgryte look completely helpless at away turfs, therefore, I expect for the hosts’ victory in the starting clash of the season.
