Ukraine faces North Macedonia in round 2 of the Euro group stage. The match will be played on Thursday, June 17th at Națională (Bucharest)
The defeat to the Netherlands (2-3) became for Ukraine the 6th in a row at the European Championships. Thus, the Yellow-Blues repeated the anti-record of the Yugoslavia national team. The Ukrainians could well have avoided defeat, but they failed to keep a draw after an impressive comeback. For the first time since the defeat to Germany in November 2020, the Ukrainian national team conceded three goals in one match. However, the Yellow-Blues scored at least two goals in the second consecutive game. The last time they managed to do this was in 2019-2020. In November 2019, they tied against Serbia (2-2) and then beat Switzerland in September 2020 (2-1).

In the match against Austria, North Macedonia did not have many chances to score. The Macedonians delivered only two shots on target, but one of them was prolific. The goal was scored by the legend of Macedonian football, 37-year-old Goran Pandev. The debutants of the EURO 2020 lacked the strength for the second half. Macedonia conceded in the 78th and 89th minutes and lost 1-3. Conceding after a break is a regular occurrence for Macedonians. In total, they conceded goals in the second half in three of their last five matches. In particular, it happened in matches against Germany (1-2, and a goal conceded in the 63rd minute) and Slovenia (1-1, in the 97th).
If we look at the Ukrainian national team, midfielders Viktor Tsygankov and Oleksandr Zubkov are at risk of missing the match. The former has only recently started training in the general group, and the latter is recovering from an injury sustained in a game against the Netherlands. North Macedonia has no losses. Ukraine has experienced problems with conversion for a long time. They could not score more than one goal in eleven matches in a row. But they fixed this situation in the last two games. The Yellow-Blues scored four goals against Cyprus and upset the goalkeeper of the Netherlands twice. Beyond that, the Ukrainians invariably scored in seven consecutive games. North Macedonia has scored in the same number of games. And the Red Lions conceded in four of the last six matches. Ukraine conceded at least a goal in seven of the last ten games. Therefore, we may well count on a goal exchange.
Prediction for the match: Both teams to score — yes
