Swansea City hosts Luton Town in round 23 of the English Championship. The match will be played on Tuesday, February 1st at Swansea.com Stadium (Swansea)
Swansea is based in Wales and won the cup of this region ten times. But for a very long time, this team had been trying to prove themselves in the English football structure. And there were some loud successes: in 2011, the Swans managed to promote to the Premier League through the playoffs. And there were some quite decent years there. Moreover, they won their main trophy in 2013 — the League Cup. Then Swansea looked quite good in the group stage of the Europa League but lost to Napoli in the first round of the playoffs. But in 2018, the Welsh team was relegated to the Championship. The Swans got stuck there, but in the last draw they were close to a new promotion. Having taken fourth place, they failed to go through the playoffs, losing to Brentford. And now the representative of Wales has noticeably slowed down. In 26 matches, it earned only 32 points, and of course, there are no real chances to play in the playoffs again. However, the gap from Peterborough, which is the best among the three underdogs, is quite large.

Luton Town has a long but not very glorious history. Suffice it to say that the “golden” period was the decade between 1982 and 1992, when the team played in the top division and, most importantly, won the League Cup. But recently, the Hatters even dropped to the 5th division of the country. It was only in 2014 that they managed to get into League 2. After three years, Luton Town gained one more promotion through the playoffs. And in 2019, the team returned to the Championship after a 12-year pause. So far, the results are modest but generally worthy. For example, the Hatters earned 62 points and took 12th place in the previous season. Now they are at about the same level. But it is worth noting that the team showed very good results in winter. They continue their struggle in the cup. And most importantly, the Hatters gained four victories and 14 points in the last seven rounds of the Championship. It seems that this breakthrough finally removes the risk of being relegated to League 1. On Saturday, Luton Town tied against Blackburn, which is one of the leaders in the current season (0-0).
Luton looks pretty good in the winter, and Swansea will probably finish the season at a reduced speed. Therefore, we think that the visitors will manage to earn at least one point.
Prediction for the match: Luton to win with +0.5 handicap
