The visitors’ manager Fred Rutten featured his first win in the new position, quite a difficult one. After the first half, Anderlecht were conceding, 0:1, but their performance suggested that that would not last long. Even in the first half, they presented a challenge for Eupen, hitting the woodwork wherever possible and preventing the guests from doing so. Nevertheless, throughout the half, Eupen managed to hit Anderlecht’s goal once and this solitude hit turned successful. The hosts, however, continued to impose their play in the second half, their higher class had a say, and they beat their visitors.
Standard are a way more difficult opponent than Eupen. They kicked into gear and won four of five latest rounds and drawed once, as noted above. Even in Anderlecht’s better times, Standard were rather fine when welcoming them. Of their ten trips to Liege, Anderlecht won only once and suffered just six defeats. The hosts have been victorious in six successive home encounters. The guests lost four consecutive rounds away. Moreover, in the league’s eleven outings, they conceded seven times. The Anderlecht outfit are half-baked so far. Rutten will need some time to understand what should be fixed and decide on the squad. Standard’s form is outstanding, and the team are very capable of winning Anderlecht, the present-formed one, at home, which they will probably do tomorrow.
Prediction for the match: Standard Liege to win home.
