Slovan Bratislava take on the visitors Aris in the first leg of UEFA Europa League qualification finals. The match will be played on Thursday, August 24th at Tehelné pole (Bratislava).
Slovan (Bratislava) have once again entered a less prestigious tournament. The Sky Blues had their moments back in the days of unified Czechoslovakia. Their victory in the Cup Winners' Cup is noteworthy. Currently, the team essentially dominates on the domestic front. However, Slovakia's football performance, even in terms of national teams, is not shining, and the club teams are rated quite low. Even the leader of recent years struggled in the Champions League qualifiers, with Swift Hesper and even pleasingly NK Zrinjski eliminating them. But then came Maccabi, which managed to defeat Vaiss's team both away and at home in Haifa. Now the kings of Bratislava have predictably set off on the path of descent to the Europa League.

Aris (Limassol) debuted in the Champions League qualifiers this summer. The Light Brigade was founded back in 1930. Despite the flashy name, seemingly borrowed from their Greek counterparts, they hardly achieved anything notable until a certain Belarusian period began, which continues to this day. First, the current owner, Fedotov, arrived from the republic. Soon, Vladimir brought in a young (he turned just 35 in February, opting for a younger coaching staff!) coach, Shpilevsky. He introduced his new team to the international arena a couple of seasons ago – however, their 2022 Europa League campaign was limited to a clash with Neftchi (2-0 and 0-3). But things improved after Kokorin strengthened the team, reminding them how to score goals on Cyprus, which led them to the 1st place. This summer, the team started in the Champions League qualifiers, where they defeated BATE twice, with scores of 6-2 and 5-3. However, they later lost both legs against Raków, which sent them to the Europa League after scores of 1-2 and 0-1.
Naturally, as a team in only their 2nd season of European competitions, Aris will travel to Bratislava for the first time. Playing at home, the Slovaks are considered slight favorites in this pair. However, this is the first match of the decisive round between fairly evenly matched opponents. We anticipate a total under 2.5 goals scored.
Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 scored goals.
