Slovakia hosts Bulgaria in a friendly international match. The match will be played on Tuesday, June 1st at Josko Arena (Ried)
Slovakia managed to progress from the group in 2016 - then the Russian team suffered from the Falcons. However, they didn’t achieve new serious successes. Slovakia became the worst second team in the qualification for the World Championship, and the Euro qualifiers brought only 3rd place in the group. But the Nations League quota helped. The Slovaks beat Ireland only on penalties in the first match, and then they eliminated Northern Ireland thanks to a goal by Duris in the extra time. This spring, Tarkovic's charges did not leave the best impression, starting a new cycle with draws against Cyprus and Malta. And the Falcons conceded twice from the latter at home, avoiding shame only in the second half. But then there was a victory over the Russians. Now an optimal roster has been gathered, especially taking into account Skrtel's injury.

The Lions make us either ironically perceive their nickname or feel nostalgic about the times when they were a truly formidable force. After the successes of the 90s, there was no other such generation, not including some stars like Petrov and Berbatov. In 2004, Bulgaria managed to play at the big tournament for the last time. We can note the victory in the group in the first Nations League, but the Bulgarians climbed to Division C only to fly back last fall. In the company of Wales, Finland, and Ireland, they scored only two points. They also missed the last chance to break into the Euro, losing to Hungary in the very first stage of the playoffs. The mentors are changing (now the team is headed by Yasen Petrov, who came to the post after the New Year), but there is no result. The new cycle began with the defeats to Italy and Switzerland and a draw against Northern Ireland. Now the coaching staff will obviously give a chance to young people — only ten players have experience of more than 10 matches for the national team of Bulgaria.
In 1999, the teams exchanged victories in friendly matches with a score of 2-0. There was also a test match in 2006, and Slovakia won it confidently (3-1). Now the nominal hosts are simply stronger than present-day Bulgaria. We look forward to the victory of the Slovaks.
Prediction for the match: Slovakia to win
