Slavia Prague take on the visitors Dnipro-1 in the first leg of UEFA Europa League qualification semifinals. The match will be played on Thursday, August 10th at Fortuna Arena (Prague).
Slavia kick off in their home city of Prague. The Patchwork team is considered one of the giants of Czech football. However, at the beginning of the new century, they gradually took a back seat. Fortunately, they managed to attract Chinese investors here, which significantly boosted the team's performance. As a result, from 2017 to 2021, they secured four titles and even managed to play in the Champions League. But they've missed out on the top spot twice now—first to Viktoria (Plzeň) and then, in the spring, to their neighbor Sparta. As a result, last season, the Czechs even played in the Conference League, making it to the group stage. And now, Slavia with its revamped roster (including the good sale of Jurašek, and strengthening the defense with Taloverov, the main center-back of the Ukrainian youth national team, which was a revelation at the recent Euros), is on the scene.

Dnipro-1 will attempt to make a name for themselves here. Although unofficially, the Black and Yellows have become the successor of Dnipro, the team that won gold and the cup back in the USSR era and reached the final of the Europa League under Markevych. After bankruptcy and a restart, they had to climb from the Second League and gradually build up their strength. Eventually, even under Jovichevich in 2022, they secured a 3rd place finish, which allowed them to debut in the Europa League. However, they were defeated by their first opponent, AEK from Limassol. Later, the Ukrainians progressed from the group stage of the Conference League but faced the same Cypriot team in the first round of the playoffs. Simultaneously, Kucher's team fought with Shakhtar for the championship in the UPL, but the more experienced miners eventually won. Nevertheless, the Dnipro players entered the Champions League qualification. However, their debut didn't go well there: they lost 1-3 to Panathinaikos in their supposed home match. Yes, they managed to score twice in Athens and revive the intrigue. However, the final 2-2 was a letdown. Will it be different this time?
This is the first time Dnipro-1 are coming to the Czech capital. It's hard to believe that something will work out for the Ukrainians, whose roster has even lost Dovbyk. Let's bet that the hosts will win with a handicap of -1.0 goal in the Czech capital.
Prediction for the match: Slavia to win with -1.0 handicap.
