SJK hosts Mariehamn in round 10 of the Finnish Veikkausliiga. The match will be played on Wednesday, June 30th at OmaSp Stadion (Seinajoki)
In 2014-2016 SJK won all the important trophies in the local arena: the League Cup, the only championship title in history, and the national cup. But after that breakthrough, the team quite confidently and very quickly turned into the middle peasant of Veikkausliiga. And 7th place in 2020 was the best result in three seasons. Now Denis Oliynyk (the ex-player of the Ukrainian national team has clearly slowed down, does not always appear in the first XI, and has not yet scored) and the company are among the middle peasants. Starting with a couple of draws, then Jani Honkavaara's charges began to alternate victories with defeats. In the last round, they beat Marienhamn away, albeit only 0-1.

The fans of Mariehamn remember the very recent triumphs. The modest club went through a golden period in the middle of the last decade. At first, the Islanders won the cup for the first time in their history (in 2015), and the next season brought them the only champion’s title. But then there was a regression, and the team finished the last championship in 9th place. Now Mariehamn is showing even worse results. The club is 3rd from the end, but only because the newcomers, KTP and AC Oulu, do not match the level of the elite division. After all, the Islanders had an excellent start — two wins in the first two rounds. But these were the only achievements. A 0-1 loss to SJK last Thursday was already the 6th defeat in a row for Mariehamn (although it played six times at home, including both last matches). Moreover, the Islanders didn’t manage to score a single goal during that segment.
In 2017-2019, Mariehamn had a clear advantage in head-to-head matches, while SJK could only boast of rare draws. In the last championship, the clubs exchanged away victories, and the games were rich in goals (1-2 and 2-3). SJK is not particularly stable, but it still wins quite often. Mariehamn is in a deep crisis, and the coaching staff hardly managed to come up with something to fix the situation. We are waiting for the victory of the hosts.
