Sunderland nearly made it to the Premier League this year. The Black Cats actually have a lot in common with their upcoming opponent. A successful team until the 1930s, they later lost ground and were mainly remembered for their cup performances. They did occasionally return to the EPL but alternated with relegations to League 1. After escaping from there recently, the club finished sixth in the last season and even started the playoffs with a 2-1 win against Luton. However, in the return leg, they were defeated 0-2, which sent Luton to the final, where they succeeded. In the new season, after a few wins (including a penalty shootout win in the League Cup), Tony Mowbray's team had a decent run but suffered a loss to Cardiff in the last round.
After a couple of Sunderland wins, there was first a draw, and then in the cup, they defeated the Owls in Sheffield. The Black Cats should get back to winning ways. Betting on an away win seems appropriate.
