Shamrock Rovers take on the visitors Ferencvaros in the second leg of UEFA Conference League qualification quarterfinals. First leg result: 0-4. The match will be played on Thursday, August 3rd at Tallaght Stadium (Dublin).
Shamrock Rovers are only strong on an Irish scale. The Hoops hold the national record for the number of league titles (20) and won cups (25). They have an illustrious history, and under the guidance of Stephen Bradley, they managed to secure three consecutive Premier Division titles. Currently, there is little doubt that someone will take away the 1st place from Rovers, as all their challengers, including St. Patrick's and Derry City, are comfortably trailing. However, their European success has been limited to reaching the group stage of the UEFA Europa League in 2011 and the UEFA Europa Conference League last autumn. In the past, they at least had some success in the qualification rounds, even defeating Maltese club Hibernians in the Champions League. However, recently they suffered losses in both legs against Breidablik. Furthermore, they failed to respond to the four goals scored by the Hungarian team in the away match.

Ferencvaros showed the door to their coach in July. The Green Eagles are one of the few clubs that surpass Irish teams in the number of trophies, including golden titles. They began their success back in 1903, during the times of the dissolved Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War I. This spring, they clinched their 34th title and, importantly, their 5th consecutive one. Naturally, they also want to make an impact on the international stage. Under Sergei Rebrov in 2020, they finally returned to the group stage of the Champions League. During the past season, under manager Cherchesov, they even won their group in the Europa League, advancing to the playoffs. However, these achievements could not help Stanislav Salamovich keep his position after the humiliation in the current qualification campaign, where ambitious Hungarians were soundly defeated at their home in Budapest by KI Klaksvik after a goalless draw in the Faroe Islands. Right after the final whistle, the experienced Russian specialist became unemployed. Then, acting as interim coach, he faced Shamrock, but the match ended in a clear 4-0 defeat for the guests.
A year ago, these same teams crossed paths in the Europa League. Ferencvaros convincingly defeated Shamrock Rovers 4-0 at home and allowed them to win narrowly with a 1-0 scoreline in Dublin. Ferencvaros will be the favorite in the second leg as well. However, the hosts will also try to make an impact, so we can expect a total over 2.5 goals in this match.
Prediction for the match: Over 2.5 scored goals.
