Scotland hosts Cyprus in round 3 of Euro Qualification. The match will be played on Saturday, June 8th at Hampden Park (Glasgow)
Teams play ten matches in the qualifiers, but the shortfall of points in the game with some outsider, even in the first round, can reduce the chances of the national team to the final success almost to zero. Well, that’s what happened to the Scots actually... Scotland didn’t roll into the qualification at all and disgraced in the first round, losing 0-3 to the weak Kazakhs, thereby losing very important three points, which the British team will probably lack in the fight for a second place... There was also a match with San Marino, where the British didn’t care too much and won only 2-0. In June, the Scots will have two matches, and the men of Steve Clarke plan to get three points! And they need to take them in the upcoming match with the Cypriots! Since the second match of June will be played against the Belgians, and there will be naturally no chance in it... Judging by the coefficient, the bookmakers are not very confident in the Scots in the upcoming home game with the Cypriots. But I think that Scotland has a definitely higher class than its upcoming rival! It is worth remembering the previous qualification, where the Scots gave second place to the Slovaks only by additional fixtures, although they earned 18 points, the same amount as the Slovaks. The Cypriots are far from such achievements.

Well, I have never taken Cyprus seriously in football terms. APOEL used to make some noise; or to be more exact, a bunch of Brazilians playing for this club did it. As for the national team, everything is consistently bad. As a rule, Cypriots finish fifth in the qualifying group of six teams most often and are ahead of only some kind of football dwarf. But I think the Cypriots can fight for the fourth final place in the current qualification! Hence besides San Marino, the group includes, to put it mildly, modest Kazakhs... As for the starting two matches in this qualification, everything was very predictable! A victory with a big score over San Marino (5-0) and the defeat to the Belgians (0-2); by the way, 0-2 is a quite good result! It could well have been a score of 0-5 and 0-6... And we surely should note one important fact: over the previous four years, Cyprus won only one away match, and then the opponent was the national team of Gibraltar. And that victory was extremely difficult, with just a 2-1 score.
Scotland and Cyprus are frankly not the top teams, but the Scots look, I would even say, much more solid against the background of the Cypriots. And the results of previous qualifications make it clear.
Prediction for the match: Scotland to win
