Sassuolo take on the visitors Monza in the round 36 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Friday, May 19th at Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore (Reggio Emilia).
Sassuolo made their debut in Serie A 10 years ago, in 2013. And a couple of years later, they earned the right to play in the Europa League – they participated in the group stage there in 2016. However, they had disappointing results, finishing in 4th place, the last spot. Moreover, they couldn't replicate that breakthrough. There was an ascent under Eusebio Di Francesco, but even with him, they didn't climb higher than the 8th position. When Roberto De Zerbi left for Shakhtar Donetsk, it became clear that their potential was limited, and the team noticeably declined. Although there don't seem to be any particular issues with their current coach, Alessio Dionisi, "Neroverdi" finished in Serie A last season, and it's unlikely they will climb higher this time. It's worth noting that Alessio managed to overcome a slump with six defeats and only one draw. Soon after that, they had a mirror image of positive results, with six wins in eight Serie A matches, eliminating any talk of relegation. They were able to win, at least at home, in the second half of the season, even against "Juventus." Their away performances, however, were not successful. They also lost in the previous round, but it was against an in-form "Inter," with a 2-4 scoreline.

Monza celebrated their 110th anniversary with a great performance. However, this new chapter began quite recently, in 2018. That's when the club, which was playing in the third division, caught the attention of Silvio Berlusconi. Of course, it had an impact that the team plays in the suburbs of Milan, the hometown of the eccentric billionaire. However, it should be noted that they made it to Serie A in 2022, only on their second attempt in Serie B, and not directly but through playoffs from the 4th position. Despite an active transfer campaign last summer, there were doubts that the newcomer would succeed, and they did start weakly. But then they were lucky to have Cristian Brocchi as their coach. Initially, the former striker was only an interim coach, but he soon got rid of that prefix. It was well-deserved as he immediately started earning points actively. It's noteworthy that the newly promoted team, both in the spring and after securing their place in the championship for the next season, continues to win or, at the very least, collect points. Neither Raffaele nor his team have had their fill of success yet. They also achieved another 2-0 victory against Napoli in the previous round.
The teams last played against each other in cup competitions back in 2010, where they had a 1-1 draw at Monza's home ground. The hosts appear to be the clear favorites in this matchup. However, underestimating the Serie A newcomer would be a mistake, so let's bet on Monza not losing.
Prediction for the match: Monza not to lose (X2).
