Romania take on the visitors Switzerland in the round 10 match of group stage of UEFA Euro-2024 qualification. The match will be played on Tuesday, November 21st at Arena Nationala (Bucharest).
Romania has noticeably improved this year. "The Tricolours" have struggled to make an impact since Euro 2016. Furthermore, last year, under the management of Mirel Rădoi Jr., who took over in January 2022, they experienced a setback with a last-place finish in their group. Edward was still left in charge, which was not the most obvious decision, but it unexpectedly paid off. In the new qualification, the team did not suffer a defeat and even managed an unexpected draw against Switzerland. On the other hand, there were many draws, including 0-0 against Kosovo and Belarus away, and a 1-1 draw at home against Israel. They played against the "blue and white" in the last round as well, conceding an early goal but ultimately securing a determined 2-1 victory.

Switzerland established themselves as a strong team under their previous coach, participating not only in major tournaments but also making playoff rounds. Taking over from Petković, a local legend as a player, Murat Yakin confidently led them to direct qualification for the World Cup, surpassing Italy in the qualifiers and advancing to the playoffs there. However, in 2023, after a strong start with three wins, there were mostly draws – against Romania and Kosovo (both 2-2), as well as Belarus, where they came back to draw 3-3, scoring twice in the closing minutes. They couldn't secure victories in November either, drawing 1-1 with Israel and Kosovo. Nevertheless, this was enough to secure qualification for the Euros.
Considering the 2-2 draw in June, both teams now have two draws and one victory each. The tournament intrigue is already gone. Thanks to their higher class, the "Nati" should secure a victory even away from home.
