Riteriai hosts Zalgiris in round 16 of Lithuanian A Lyga. The match will be played on Thursday, July 20th at LFF Stadium (Vilnius)
Riteriai won only once in 15 rounds, but this is due solely to the whims of fortune. It was upset by losing 10 times (most often in the championship), but nine such failures were strictly minimal. In the current season, Pikkarainen’s men were happy with only one victory, but it stopped Zalgiris in its lair (0:1), when the opponent was also considered the uncontested favorite. The hosts have nothing to lose. They will not keep the zeros on the scoreboard and will play to win.

Zalgiris is considered the undisputed favorite of the match with Riteriai. The team gained 10 victories in 15 league matches, but there were only four blowouts with a +2-goal difference. Baha’s men destroyed Suduva, having scored it in the added time (4:0). Then they beat Kauno (3:1) only because they played in the majority from the 30th minute and converted the penalty. And Panevezys suffered a fiasco in the starting round (4:0). Thus, Zalgiris gained three out of four lopsided victories at home. Yes, the team scored the most points among all competitors outside of the home arena (5-1-1). However, four victories were minimal. The team's potential for thumping is clearly overestimated. Zalgiris is fighting with Suduva for the gold in A Lyga, but the team lost to its main rival a week earlier, having broken its 6-match winning streak. These circumstances will certainly not have the best effect in the team's locker room.
In August, Riteriai already met with teams similar to Zalgiris in the selection of performers, and the team looked decent. It allowed Kauno to score only one goal (0:1) lost to Suduva because of two goals conceded in the endings of both halves (1:2). In general, Riteriai and Zalgiris are fellow citizens, whose derbies are historically extremely tense and are not full of blowouts. Thus, the Knights didn’t lose with a big score in the last 21 head-to-head meetings. Perhaps this trend will continue.
Prediction for the match: Riteriai to win with +1.5 handicap
