Alaves started the last season cheerfully but finished the championship in 11th place. A person who watches football a little and does not understand advanced statistics may start looking for some strange reasons (such as “mood” and “burning eyes”), but the reality is much more prosaic – Alaves simply lost its luck. Just realize the scale of the anomaly: the team, whose main weapon is set pieces, was in the Champions League zone until December. But there are no such anomalies in this season: 1 goal was scored from the game, 1 – after a set piece, therefore, a place in the middle of the tournament standings.
It seems to me that everyone understands - Real Sociedad and Alaves are in fundamentally different situations now. Alaves is only abuilding (it’s even more correct to say that it is being rebuilt since the changes are not so large-scale), and Real Sociedad can claim to be in the Euro cups for the first time in several years. Therefore, it is logical to consider the San Sebastians as the favorites of the upcoming match. My prediction is the victory of Real Sociedad.
