Real Madrid welcome the visitors CSKA Moscow in the Champions League Group Stage – Round 6. The match will be held on Wednesday, December 12th, at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu (Madrid).
We don’t think Real Madrid will now seek revenge for their defeat to CSKA. This is weak clubs’ way. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu sees another Champions League match wherein the hosts can easily rack up three points and, possibly, blowout the opponent. There is no need to talk much of the first head-to-head – let CSKA fans remember the day when they managed to win the three-time Champions League holders. The only surprising fact is that bookmakers offer such big odds on the hosts’ win with -2.0 handicap. Well, the ‘Meringues’ are not what they were, as many people think, and they are just fifth in their national competition, but in the Champions League group stages, only Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Barcelona scored more goals so far.

After CSKA’s defeat to Viktoria Plzen, there is not much to discuss. The Moscow team lost in three consecutive matches; Roma demonstrated CSKA’s real position in their group at the home clash; on their travels, Viktor Goncharenko’s side have found the net in one of their last four matches. Maybe the talented youth will lead the Russian Premiere League in a couple of years, but playing equal with the Royal Club… this will hardly ever happen. The guests should better concentrate on their local championship in spring, not looking at the Europa League (theoretically, they still have chances to transfer there), hoping for the outcome of Viktoria Plzen’s clash with Roma to go their way.
CSKA can actually manage to get one point – this is possible, given that the hosts are reluctant to compete. Santiago Solari has many points to prove, but he has already beaten Melilla and Valencia, and has managed Roma quite easily away. The only thing that Goncharenko should think of is not to have a smashout defeat on Real’s turf. The hosts will net at least twice, and they will not allow, for sure.
Prediction for the match: Real Madrid to win with -2.0 handicap.
