Peru hosts Venezuela in round 6 of the World Cup qualification. The match will be played on Monday, September 6th at Estadio Estadio Nacional de Lima (Lima)
Peru performed well at the Copa America. The team progressed from the group and even knocked out Paraguay in the 1/8 finals. The regulation time ended in a 3-3 draw, and the Incas won in a penalty shootout. But in the semifinals, they lost 0-1 to the hosts of the tournament, and the consolation final ended with a 2-3 defeat to Colombia. Most importantly, the Incas are far from repeating the success of the previous qualification cycle, when they were able to win a ticket to the World Cup for the first time after a long pause. Now Ricardo Gareca's charges are among the last in the standings. However, the last matches give hope that not everything has been lost for the team so far. At first, back in June, Peru managed to beat Ecuador. And on Friday, the Peruvians held a home match against Uruguay from a position of strength. And they can reasonably regret that they did not manage to maintain the advantage (1-1).

The national team of Venezuela is the only one that is even lower in the standings than Peru. There are several strong players, most notably Thomas Rincon and Salomon Rondon. But the results are poor: the Venezuelans never went to the World Cups. As for Copa America, a success is when the team progresses from the group. This was the case in 2016 and 2019. But this spring Venezuela didn’t manage to do it, although it was just necessary not to become the 5th team out of 5. But there were only two draws and two defeats, and it was the worst result in the quintet. The decisive match was lost to Peru — no response was given to Carrillo's goal. And the defeat to Argentina in September was not surprising at all. Moreover, Luis Martinez managed to take the field and pick up a red card by the 32nd minute. The Venezuelans almost managed to keep a draw until the break, but Lautaro Martinez scored into the locker room after Lo Celso's pass. And in the middle of the 2nd half, both Correa, Joaquin and Angel, managed to score goals after appearing from the bench.
Peru has not lost to Venezuela for five matches in a row: two minimum victories and three draws. Including at Copa America 2021, on June 28th, the Incas gained another 1-0 victory thanks to Carrillo's goal. Bookmakers believe that the pair will not have much intrigue. Peru really needs a victory, and it will achieve it on the home pitch.
Prediction for the match: Peru to win
