Panama hosts Mexico in round 3 of the third stage of the World Cup qualification. The match will be played on Thursday, September 9th at Estadio Rommel Fernandez (Panama City)
Panama made their debut at the World Cups in 2018. Yes, the Canal Men became the worst and lost all their three matches, but, perhaps, all things are difficult before they are easy? The national team of Panama was able to pass the previous rounds of qualification for the new World Cup. Truth be told, it showed the worst result in this century at the summer Gold Cup and didn’t progress from the group. But the Reds lost only to Honduras, gaining a draw against Qatar and beating Grenada. And, most importantly, Thomas Christensen's charges are now in good shape (a curious character: the Dane who played for the Spanish national team and coached AEK Larnaca, APOEL, and even Leeds). They started the new stage with a goalless draw against Costa Rica and then defeated Jamaica away.

Mexico is rightfully considered the strongest team in the region. The Tricolors are constantly competing for status No. 1 with their neighbors, the United States. But that didn’t stop the Mexicans from starting with two victories, albeit minimal ones. Jamaica was beaten 2-1, with a decisive goal in the 89th minute. And Costa Rica conceded the only goal from the penalty spot.
This century Panama beat Mexico only in 2013. Moreover, the Canal Men did it twice in a row. The Tricolors now have a streak of four consecutive victories with a 10-1 score, including a 3-0 thumping in a July friendly game. Panama started this qualifying stage well, but the opponents were simple. Maybe it will not be very easy for Mexico, but it is obliged to win.
