Panama hosts El Salvador in round 8 of the third stage of the World Cup qualification. The match will be played on Wednesday, November 17th at Estadio Rommel Fernandez (Panama City)
Panama wants to repeat the result of the last cycle. It was in 2018 that the Canal Men were finally able to win a ticket to the World Cup. However, the debut turned out to be a failure: three defeats with a total goal difference of 2-11. But it seems the appetite comes while eating. Having no stars in the roster (only Andres Andrade plays in the top championship, but at modest Arminia Bielefeld), the national team of Panama not only reached the decisive stage of this qualification but scored 11 points in seven rounds. Only the pair of familiar favorites, the USA and Mexico, as well as the progressive team of Canada, have scored more. But Panama manages to keep the 4th place confidently, and the pursuers are five points behind.

El Salvador only played twice at the World Cups, but it happened a very long time ago, in 1970 and 1982. So, reaching the decisive stage of qualification can be considered a good result. Moreover, the players mainly represent the North American championships, and only Punyed from Vikingur and Enrico Hernandez from FC Eindhoven arrived from Europe. But curiously, El Salvador managed to score half of its six points by beating Panama in October. Then the only goal was scored by Duenas Hernandez in the first half. But all the same, the chances of stepping up and imposing competition on the leaders tend to be minimal. If the Salvadorians don't win now, they will lose even such chances.
We have already mentioned the victory of El Salvador that happened a month ago. But before that, there was a streak of ten matches in which the national team of Panama did not lose a single time: three draws in regulation time and seven victories (and two more after a penalty shootout).
