Nigeria meets South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals. The match will be played on Wednesday, July 10th at Cairo International Stadium (Cairo)
Nigeria knocked out the vice-champion of Africa, Cameroon, in the most interesting match of the 1/8 finals. Having taken the lead in the 19th minute, the Super Eagles decided, as usual in Africa, to close, to “dry” the game and kill the clock until the final whistle. But they didn’t succeed. Cameroon took the lead ahead, scoring 2 goals far in the 1st half, and kept the game under control. However, 3 minutes (from 63 to 66) were enough for Nigeria to put everything upside down. The team scored 2 goals and brought the game to victory.

Well, that's the loudest sensation of the tournament. South Africa knocked out the hosts and the main favorites of the championship - the Egyptians. The Pharaohs took the ball under control from the very beginning of the match and possessed it 63% of the time. They delivered 15 shots. But at the same time, they did not pay attention to the fact that Bafana Bafana also delivered practically the same amount. Those shots did not turn into goals, and time was running out. And when it seemed that extra time could not be avoided, the Pharaohs conceded a goal in the 85th minute in the counterattack.
Nigeria considered an obvious favorite in the upcoming game, but for no good reason. The defense of Nigeria cannot boast of reliability. It conceded 2 goals from Cameroon in the 1st half and conceded the same two goals from Madagascar in the group. South Africa scored just 2 goals in the tournament, but that was enough to play in the quarterfinals. And the team loves and, most importantly, knows how to score the Nigerians. It scored them in 4 of the 5 last head-to-head matches. In the last match, South Africa showed how strong their counterattacks are. My subjective opinion – Bafana Bafana will advance to the semifinal. But to make the bet more promising and safer, I suggest choosing a goal of South Africans. Surely, they will give the initiative to the opponent, but they may use their attempt in the counterattack.
Prediction for the match: South Africa to score - yes
