Mura hosts Ludogorets in the first leg of the Champions League qualification quarterfinals. The match will be played on Wednesday, July 21st at Mestni stadion Fazanerija (Murska Sobota)
Mura once again got to the top league of Slovenia only in 2018. In 2020, the team achieved a great result, having won the national cup. It was the first serious trophy since 1995. Then the Black and Whites eliminated Nõmme Kalju and Aarhus in the Europa League qualification, but PSV stopped them on their way to the group stage. In the previous season, Ante Shimundza’s charges managed to get ahead of all their opponents (including Maribor) and won the champion’s title. They managed to take 1st place for the first time in their history! The debut in the Champions League qualification was extremely successful. Mura defeated Škendia away thanks to a goal from Bobicanec from the penalty spot, and at home the Black and Whites hammered the Macedonians with a score of 5-0.

Ludogorets won the Bulgarian championship once again and began their usual way to the Champions League group stage. One might say that the team was out of luck with the draw. In the 1st round, the Eagles got a quite strong opponent in the person of Shakhtyor Soligorsk. It finally won gold medals in the previous championship and started the new season with 13 victories and one draw in 14 matches. But Ludogorets was clearly stronger than the Miners at home, and only thanks to the exploits of Gutor, the Belarusians held out until the 92nd minute in Razgrad. Still, Cauly managed to pull out the victory. The return leg had to be held in Serbia due to the sanctions against Belarus. And the situation was almost the same: the Bulgarians were, if not stronger, then certainly not worse, and Despodov managed to score the only goal after the break. The next opponent looks weaker than Roman Hryhorchuk's charges. But the Eagles have no right to underestimate Mura.
Mura is now on the rise, but it did not show anything for a long time before that. So, it is not surprising that there was not a single match between these teams before.
