Monaco take on the visitors Lyon in the round 16 match of French Ligue 1. The match will be played on Friday, December 15th at Stade Louis II (Monaco).
The last season was a failure for Golovin and his teammates as they missed out on the European competition zone. However, they are now relieved from playing on two fronts, allowing the team to focus solely on the domestic championship, where they are doing well. Adi Hütter's team currently sits in third place in the table, trailing Nice by just two points, and PSG are not too far ahead with a six-point gap. In the recent Ligue 1 round, they defeated Rennes 2-1, following a 2-0 victory over Montpellier at home. Looking at their home matches in the current championship, the team celebrated victory in six out of six. There seems to be no reason why Monaco should drop points at the Louis II Stadium this time.

I won't dwell on Lyon's problems again, as they have been criticized by everyone this season. Why bother? Everyone knows that the once formidable Olympique are in crisis, and it's unclear when it will end, or if the team will maintain its place in Ligue 1. True, in the last round, the Lions secured a significant victory over Toulouse. However, firstly, it was only their second victory in 15 rounds. Secondly, before that, the team coached by Pierre Sagnol suffered three consecutive defeats: against Lille (0-2), Lens (2-3), and Marseille (0-3). And thirdly, Toulouse fought for survival in the league last season, and this season, due to winning the country's cup, they have to play on two fronts. This can be challenging even for big clubs, let alone smaller ones. Therefore, Lyon should not be overestimated after the previous round's victory. The Lions remain weak, having lost 9 out of 15 matches in the championship, including five defeats in seven away games in the league.
For me, everything is quite obvious in this match. The hosts are one of the best teams in the current championship, sitting in the top 3 of the table. The visitors are the biggest disappointment of the season, occupying the bottom of the table. I don't believe that, especially in a match against Monaco and on the road, Lyon's players will suddenly improve and find their form. Unless something supernatural happens, like a foolish quick red card for the hosts, the favorite should comfortably take three points in this match to the delight of their fans in the stands. The bet is on a Home Win.
Prediction for the match: Monaco to win.
