It is unforgivable for Melbourne City to lose points in the head-to-head match with the main outsider of A-League, because the gap from Sydney is already 11 points, and each draw/loss will separate the City further and further from the coveted first place. So far, the Jets have nothing changing. The results do not come even with the change of coach, and it seems that the problem lies in the frankly weak squad of Newcastle. In the last round, the Jets hosted the leaders of A-League and played selflessly, but the quality of Sydney’s football was not achievable for the hosts. Sydney gained a 2-1 victory.
I do not believe that the Jets will play closed football with one of the leaders of the championship. This is not their style. Newcastle has the weakest defense in the League (27 goals conceded in 12 rounds), and the only chance for success is to play the attack, because the City, oddly enough, is the second team that concedes most often - 22 goals. More recently, the teams played against each other, and the City confidently beat the Jets due to higher skills (0-4). I expect to see the same situation - the Jets will rush forward, and the City will take advantage of this at least twice.
