However, they had a 5-1 victory over Aston Villa before that, and they only dropped points with a late goal from Kudus in the 89th minute against West Ham. A 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton seemed almost like a failure on this background. In addition to all this, Newcastle knocked out the powerhouse, Manchester City, in the League Cup, albeit against a clearly weakened City squad, with a 1-0 score.
In the Premier League, Ten Hag only managed to get 1 point against Howe in two matches last season. However, it was Red Devils who won the League Cup final with a couple of unanswered goals.
