Malmo FF take on the visitors Sirius in the round 13 match of Swedish Allsvenskan. The match will be played on Saturday, June 1st at Eleda Stadion (Malmö).
Malmo are the flagship of Swedish football. They even reached the final of the European Cup, albeit a long time ago, in 1979. And on the domestic front, they have been able to dominate: 25 championship titles in the Allsvenskan, including the 2020-2021 season. They have also made their presence felt in European competitions. In both the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons, they not only made it to the group stage of the Europa League but also reached the playoffs. However, they were eliminated in the Round of 32 on both occasions. But after the departure of Jon Dahl Tomasson in the previous season, they plummeted to 7th place in the Allsvenskan. Hiring Henrik Rydström as the coach was expected to help regain their position, and it has been going quite well. After eight consecutive wins, Malmö managed to draw 2-2 against Häcken and even lost to Elfsborg. However, they bounced back with successful matches against Degerfors and Varberg, allowing them to confidently lead the league table.

Sirius were founded in the early 20th century. However, for a long time, they struggled to play at the highest division, with only a few appearances between 1969 and 1973, alternating between the 3rd and 2nd divisions in Sweden. Only since 2017 have they managed to consistently stay in the Allsvenskan. They immediately secured 7th place but have not repeated that achievement since. In the 2022 season, they finished outside the top 10, in 11th position. In the current season, under the guidance of Krister Mattiasson, they started poorly, failing to win any of their first 9 matches and even suffering three consecutive losses in May. But towards the end of spring, they finally found their game, resulting in victories that allowed them to move away from the bottom of the league table, defeating Brommapojkarna, Varberg, and Gothenburg.
The clubs have played fairly regularly since 2016. Malmö has won the majority of their head-to-head matches, occasionally settling for draws. However, in August of last year, Sirius finally won against Malmö in Uppsala. The stronger team is playing at home, and even in their decent form, it's unlikely that the visitors will be able to pose a significant challenge to the historical Swedish football powerhouse. Let's bet that the home team will win with a one-and-a-half-goal handicap (-1.5 goals).
Prediction for the match: Malmo to win with -1.5 handicap.
