Malmo FF hosts FC Riga in the first leg of the Champions League qualification 1/8 finals. The match will be played on Wednesday, July 7th at Eleda Stadion (Malmö)
In 2020 Malmo FF was able to regain the title, and it was the first since 2017. And now the team quite confidently held the leading position. But at the end of May, after three victories in a row (and 13 out of 15 possible points), there was a pause in Allsvenskan. It did not seem to benefit the ambitious club. The championship resumed only on Saturday, and Jon Dahl Tomasson's charges went to visit Norrkoping. Colak, Malmö's top scorer, twice responded with his goals to the goals conceded. But in the 83rd minute, Lima managed to score after a pass from Wahlqvist (the player's second assist in the game), and the leader could not answer and lost 2-3.

FC Riga was founded only in 2014. However, it was done not from scratch: a couple of capital teams that were playing in the Second League united. The new project turned out to be much more successful. The newcomer immediately issued two promotions in a row, and the debut season in the elite immediately brought medals in 2018. Then the club won the Higher League, and, despite the change of mentors, it has already managed to maintain this status twice. However, now the Lions are not feeling so confident. Competitors in the person of Valmiera and RFS are not going to slow down. And most importantly, the Lions themselves are losing points very often. Out of 18 matches, 2/3 ended in victory, while there were already four defeats. On July 1, FC Riga lost to the middle peasant Liepaja without responding to Zhulev's early goal. To put it mildly, the mood before the start in the Champions League did not improve.
FC Riga will play in the qualification for European cups only for the 3rd time, and it has not played even a dozen matches at this level. Not surprisingly, it has no experience of playing against Malmo FF. The Swedish club looks generally stronger and more experienced than its opponent, and it must prove it on the field. We bet on the Swedes to win with a -1.5 handicap.
Prediction for the match: Malmo FF to win with -1.5 handicap
