Mallorca hosts Celta Vigo in round 17 of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Friday, December 10th at Visit Mallorca Estadi (Palma de Mallorca)
Mallorca has gained a fairly solid reputation as a football elevator in recent years. There was even relegation to the 3rd division of Spain, but, as a rule, the Pirates alternate between Segunda and Primera. In the spring, they were once again promoted to the local football elite. And the task was obvious: not to drop back out of habit. So far, we can state that the newcomer of LaLiga is more than coping with this task. In the last round, Mallorca unexpectedly earned three points in Madrid. Luis Garcia's men sensationally defeated the reigning champion, Atlético. The winning goal was scored by Kubo in the 91st minute. Moreover, the Mattress Makers opened the scoring in the 68th minute but managed to squander the advantage. It was the first victory for Mallorca since October 2 (apart from the cup). However, between those successes, the Pirates gained four draws in six rounds.

Celta Vigo gradually pulled away from the relegation zone. The team has traditionally failed the start. Moreover, it updated its long-term anti-records, earning only one point in the first five rounds of LaLiga. However, having beaten Levante and Granada back in September, Iago Aspas and the company seriously improved their situation. And in November, Eduardo Coudet's charges showed a streak of four championship matches without defeats (and a confident victory in the cup, but the opponent was too modest). It was interrupted in the last match against Valencia — the Celts lost 1-2 in Vigo. In large part, the reason was Aspas's injury. The leader managed to score, pick up a yellow card for his celebration and leave the field in the first quarter of an hour. Now the Sky Blues will have to fly to the islands without their top scorer, who has already scored seven goals. And the Galicians need points because the gap from the danger zone is not so large, and a couple of failures can again return them there.
In their last seasons in LaLiga, Mallorca players have successfully played against Celta, gaining a win and a draw over the course of the football year. Such results were recorded in the 2006/2007 and 2012/2013 seasons, as well as in the championship before last. Now bookmakers consider the teams' chances to be almost equal. The fight will be vicious, and taking into account the absence of Aspas, it will hardly be spectacular. The fans are unlikely to see a goal show.
Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 goals scored
