Lazio take on the visitors Lecce in the round 35 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Friday, May 12th at Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
Paradoxically, the departure of Inzaghi opened up an opportunity for the "Eagles" to begin a new, equally successful era. Maurizio Sarri is a rather unique specialist, but he has found his place in Rome, and in his very first season, he managed to bring progress, albeit slight, to his new team. Currently, "The Smokers" have pragmatically sacrificed (or at least have not shown much resistance) the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, and the domestic cup. However, this is compensated by the fact that they have a chance to finally finish in the top 4 of Serie A (and thus return to the Champions League). Moreover, by winning 7 out of 8 matches between February and April, they even managed to secure the 2nd place. They maintained this position even after setbacks in mid-spring, with defeats against Torino and Inter. Furthermore, they defeated Sassuolo. However, in the last round, they lost 0-2 to Milan.

"Lecce" have existed for almost 120 years, but it's difficult to point out any notable, real achievements. Yes, they have managed to promote to Serie A on numerous occasions, but on the flip side, they have faced an equal number of relegations. The last time they climbed up to the top division in 2019, they failed to stay in Serie A, although under Liverani, the "Wolves" showed promise. They made their return to the "top flight" only last season, winning Serie B convincingly under the guidance of Marco Baroni. At the new level with this coach, the team had decent results, and it seemed like the trio of underdogs had already been decided, almost in winter. However, the club practically stopped playing, earning only 1 point in 8 matches from the end of February, and that was a 1-1 draw against crisis-ridden Sampdoria. It wasn't until April that they managed to defeat an unmotivated Udinese. The crucial, "make-or-break" match was against Verona last Sunday... and they lost 0-1. Now they will hope that another underdog, Spezia, remains weaker.
In the 2019/2020 season, the last time Lecce played in Serie A, they managed to exchange victories with the capital's giants. Furthermore, in January, the "yellow-reds" secured a 2-1 victory on their home turf. Both teams are not in their best form. However, the "Eagles" are significantly stronger, more experienced, and playing at home. So, we bet on the victory of Sarri's team.
Prediction for the match: Lazio to win.
