Kosovo take on the visitors Switzerland in the round 5 match of UEFA Euro-2024 qualification. The match will be played on Saturday, September 9th at Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri (Pristina).
Before the start of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, the Kosovo national team was considered one of the contenders for the second place in their group. In principle, their chances of finishing in second place still exist. However, in their previous matches, the Kosovar players were far from impressive. They drew with their opponents in three consecutive qualification rounds. While draws with strong teams like Israel (1-1) and Romania (0-0) are not the worst results, they should have defeated the modest Andorra (1-1), especially in a home match. In the last round, Kosovo even managed to lose to Belarus (1-2). Now, Kosovo faces the toughest opponent in the group, and I believe that this match doesn't bode well for them.

Switzerland is the clear favorite in the group and the undisputed contender for the top spot. Yes, they had one slip-up in four rounds: leading 2-0 against Romania, they let their lead slip and played to a draw. I believe that Switzerland have already used up its quota for dropping points in what is objectively a weak group. If they allow themselves to falter again, it won't be in the near future. Before the draw with Romania, the team had secured three wins in the qualification campaign, defeating Belarus (5-0), Israel (3-0), and Andorra (2-1). Switzerland should be beating opponents of Kosovo's level, even away from home.
With all due respect to Kosovo, they still lag far behind the Swiss national team in terms of quality. Therefore, in this match, I choose the straightforward bet of a Switzerland win (W2); favorites should win based on their class. It's possible that there won't be a thrashing of the underdogs, but even away from home, the Swiss are obliged to take three points from a team that loses to modest Belarus and plays to a draw with the even more modest Andorra.
Prediction for the match: Switzerland to win.
