Hansa Rostock looked good in the days of the GDR and often won trophies. In particular, the Sailors made the golden double in 1991. But like many other East German projects, the representative of Rostock seriously slowed down after the unification of the country. At the turn of the century, it managed to spend 10 years in a row in the elite and even took 6th place twice. But in 2008, Hansa was relegated to the 2nd and then to the 3rd division, where it spent the last nine years. The club returned to Bundesliga 2 only this season, and it is clear that the primary task is to gain a foothold here. Points were gained quite actively in the fall. But in the last five rounds before Christmas, Hansa Rostock tied three times and suffered two defeats.

Only recently, in 2013, Hannover reached the European competition playoffs. And a year earlier, the Reds were knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Europa League. But then there was relegation from the Bundesliga. For the first time, Hannover managed to brace themselves and quickly returned to the elite. But after another relegation, the club seems to be stuck in the swamp of a lower division. Last spring, the Reds finished in 13th place without any ambitions to return to the number of Bundesliga participants. And it seems that this is far from the limit. Now the Reds are in 15th place in the standings. However, they managed to step up in the last two months of the first part of the season: there was only one defeat in six rounds, "crowned" with victories over Hamburg and Ingolstadt. And just before Christmas, Hannover lost 1-4 to Werder Bremen.
In the summer, facing Hannover for the first time after a long pause (there has not been a single head-to-head match since 2008), Hansa gained a sensational 3-0 victory away. The Reds were finishing 2021 better. Perhaps everything has changed for the teams during the holidays, but let’s bet on the fact that the visitors will at least not lose in the upcoming game.
