Haka hosts Honka in round 9 of the Finnish Veikkausliiga. The match will be played on Wednesday, June 30th at Tehtaan Kenttä (Valkeakoski)
At one time Haka won many different trophies at the national level. Relatively recently, in 2004, the Black-and-Whites received gold medals for the 9th time, and a year later they won their 12th cup. But then they played in Ykkonen for quite a long time. They returned to the elite only a year ago and finished 10th place. Now FC Haka shows slightly better results. The team finished the spring with a couple of victories. But June achievements are much more modest. The Black-and-Whites didn’t manage to keep a victory over Lahti, as everything was decided by an own goal in the 82nd minute. And they lost to HJK (1-2) and Honka (2-1).

Honka looked good lately and got the right to play in the Europa League qualification for the second time in a row. But the club, which was 4th in the final standings last season, did not shine in the current championship. The Yellow-Blacks suffered five defeats and managed to beat only the newcomer, KTP. Then Honka dealt with another outsider, AC Oulu. But stronger opponents (not only HJK but also KuPS) didn’t have problems in matches against the Yellow-Blacks. And only last Thursday they managed to gain a comeback victory over Haka. By the way, Jean Marie Dongou scored an important equalizer for Honka. Once this promising Cameroonian played at FC Barcelona but did not unlock his potential. In Spain, he gradually reached Segunda-B and moved to Finland last year, where he finally began to play regularly and score consistently (eight goals for Honka in the previous season, and three in the current one).
Haka has not lost to Honka four times in a row in previous years (two wins and two draws). But in 2021, the Yellow-Blacks had a 100% result. Before a victory in the championship, they won 1-0 in the national cup. It is unlikely that Haka will dramatically step up in the couple of days that have passed between games.
