Gibraltar hosts San Marino in round 1 of the UEFA Nations League D. The match will be played on Saturday, September 5th at Victoria Stadium (Gibraltar)
Gibraltar is one of the dwarf national teams, but over the past few years, it has become known as a very competitive team. In the previous home game, Ribas's men delighted their fans by scoring to the net of very strong Switzerland. Earlier, they again created a furor and fought on equal terms with Georgia (2:3) on the home pitch, having conceded the third goal only in the 84th minute. It was revealing that the hosts delivered 10 shots on the Crusaders’ goal, and five of them hit the target. Gibraltar is not hopeless even against the background of strong national teams. For example, it shot at least twice on the opponent's goal in seven last home games. On top of that, it upset Liechtenstein (2:1) and Armenia (2:6) with goals scored, and beat the latter on the road (0:1). Most of the representatives of Gibraltar are footballers of Lincoln, which is the top team by the standards of the local championship. This season this club has already advanced to the 3rd stage of the Europa League qualification.

San Marino is the weakest national team on the European continent, both in the UEFA rankings and in terms of results. Since their inception in 1990, the Blue and Whites have held 79 away matches, but have not lost in only two of them. In 2014, they miraculously tied with Estonia at home (0:0), but then they lost 37 games in a row, and 33 of them ended with a large score. The team is so mediocre that it scored only once in the last 18 matches. It happened at the end of the meeting with Kazakhstan (1:3).
Two years earlier, the San Marino national team had already played in the Nations League. However, it delivered only 23 shots (10 on target) in six matches against Belarus, Luxembourg and Moldova. Their opponents delivered 167 shots (57 on target). Nothing has changed in the qualification for the Euro. The Blue and Whites allowed their rivals to shoot on their goal 31.2 times per match, while they delivered 2.8 shots per game, on average. Naturally, they lost with an indecent score in all 10 rounds. I see no reason why San Marino will avoid another thumping.
Prediction for the match: Gibraltar to win with -1.5 handicap
