In the first round, Eupen managed to save itself from an away defeat to Aud-Heverlee Leuven, having won back 20 minutes before the end (1-1), although it could and should have received much more in terms of the game. Club Brugge put pressure on Charleroi during the entire match, like on Antwerp in the Belgian Cup final the week before, but a stupid mistake of center defender Mechele resulted in the Blue-Blacks second defeat in a row with a 1:0 score. Many unconverted attempts should anger Clement's men, who finally got an opponent that cannot compare with them in terms of the quality of players. A weak start should really make the champion angry, and Brugge can completely destroy the opponent in the first half of and decide the outcome of the meeting. Mitrovic and De Kuiper will not play for the visitors.
Oddly enough, Brugge couldn’t beat Eupen at home in the last tournament. Under the heavy loads of the Champions League qualifiers, the Blue-Blacks fielded a semi-reserve squad at home (the game ended in a goalless draw), and the away match didn’t take place since the last round in Belgium was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now the lineups of the teams have not undergone major changes, although it is possible that Clement will make some changes to the starting lineup after an unsuccessful start in the season. It is clear that the selection of players and the quality of performing skills are on the side of the visitors, who will probably be determined to start winning and defend their champion’s title.
