Ethiopia take on the visitors Malawi in the round 5 match of Africa Cup of Nations qualification. The match will be played on Tuesday, June 20th at Estádio do Zimpeto (Maputo).
Those who even slightly follow African football know well what the Ethiopian national team represents. The team made it to the last Africa Cup of Nations, and football in the country is on the rise. But suddenly, the Federation decided to do something incomprehensible... And now the Mountain Goats are left without the most valuable thing: home matches! Currently, all of Ethiopia's matches are played on neutral grounds. What a nightmare... There was one random victory over Egypt without Salah. But in friendly matches, they were beaten by everyone, and in this qualifying round, Guinea simply outclassed their opponents. The goalkeeping was a disaster, with so many childish mistakes.

Malawi also qualified for the last Africa Cup of Nations. It was a wild celebration for the country, but in the main tournament, the team only scored in one out of three group stage matches. They managed to reach the playoffs and almost eliminated Morocco. However, they quickly came crashing down. Naby Keita became the executioner of Malawi, who otherwise looked decent. They almost didn't lose to such opponents in an away match but collapsed in extra time. They had no chance against Egypt, especially with Salah in the lineup. There's no reason to criticize such a team. They didn't exceed expectations, but in all the matches where they could compete, they performed very well.
The match will take place in Mozambique. It's still unclear who will feel more comfortable in such conditions. Ethiopia hasn't been doing well in recent matches. In their last eight games, they only managed one victory, and that was against Rwanda in a friendly match. Only Bekele represents the Egyptian league, while all the others are local players who are practically ineffective outside their mountainous region. At the same time, the football boom continues in Malawi, with players moving to good leagues, and the national team performing quite decently. I don't believe that Malawi will lose on neutral ground because they handled the opponent well in Lilongwe.
Prediction for the match: Malawi not to lose (X2).
