Dnipro-1 take on the visitors Slavia Prague in the second leg of UEFA Europa League qualification semifinals. First leg result: 0-3. The match will be played on Thursday, August 17th at Kosicka futbalova arena (Košice).
Dnipro-1 are clearly not in the best shape. The Yellow-Blacks managed to smoothly transition after Yovichovich's departure. Kucher, taking over and refreshing the lineup, performed well internationally and engaged in a battle for the top spot in the UPL with Igor and his Shakhtar. However, the Donetsk giant managed to retain the title through experience, which likely hit Dnipro-1 hard. Their debut in the Champions League resulted in a 1-3 loss here in Kosice against Panathinaikos. While there was hope for a comeback in Athens, it ended in a 2-2 draw. In the Czech Republic, without the striking forward Dovbyk (who moved to Girona, scoring 24 goals in the previous Premier League season), they suffered a crushing defeat, even though they played over half an hour with 10 men.

Slavia (Prague) are again without a title. The Patchwork Team were generally considered one of the most popular clubs in the country. The arrival of Chinese investors in the last decade helped the capital project return to the top positions. Winning several titles, the Prague-based team also made a decent impression on the European stage, including the Champions League. However, in consecutive years, both in 2022 and 2023, Trpisovsky's team missed out on the top spot to their competitors. This time, they had to settle for a start in the Europa League. Yet, they performed well there - they quickly scored twice against Dnipro, and even more impressively, after Ogbo's dismissal, they not only prevented any goals but also secured a resounding 3-0 victory.
Dnipro-1, under its current name, have only participated in European competitions for the second time. Hence, this was their first encounter with Slavia. Perhaps the Prague-based club won't replicate the home thrashing. Nonetheless, it seems that this version of Dnipro-1 should be beaten by the Czech team, even when playing away.
Prediction for the match: Slavia Prague to win.
