In the previous season, Dinamo Zagreb won the title of Croatian champion and got the right to start in the Champions League qualification from the first round. The reigning champion of Poland, Legia Warsaw, started the Champions League qualification from the 1st round. The Legionaries gained victories in the confrontations against the Norwegian Bodo/Glimt (3-2 and 2-0) and the Estonian Flora (2-1 and 1-0). In the local arena, Legia's affairs are not going well. The Warsaw team lost to Rakuv in the Polish Super Cup final (0-0 and 3: 4 on penalties). And the first two matches of the new season in Ekstraklasa brought three points. After a difficult home victory over Wisla from Plock (1-0), Legia lost to the newcomer of the elite division Radomjak from Radom in the away game (3-1).
Dinamo Zagreb are the favorites of the upcoming game thanks to their excellent statistics in the home matches in European competitions. In the last 20 games, the Croatians have gained 14 victories and four draws, losing only to the powerful Manchester City (1-4) and the winner of the 2020/21 Europa League, Spanish Villarreal (0-1). Legia, which looks weak at the start of the season in the Polish championship, is unlikely to gain at least a draw in Zagreb. Eight out of nine previous games of the Croats in the Champions League and UEL ended with Under 3.5 goals scored, and the same outcome was repeated in five out of six matches of Legia. Given the importance of the upcoming match, it is logical to assume that the teams will not take risks and will again demonstrate low production.
