Croatia started the EURO group stage with a defeat in London to one of the main favorites of the tournament, the England national team (1-0). The victory for the Three Lions was brought by Raheem Sterling's goal in the 2nd half. The Czech Republic national football team successfully played its debut match against the weakest opponent in Group D, the Scots (2-0). The outcome of the game was decided by two goals from Patrick Schick. Particularly memorable was the second goal from the center of the field, and it was scored from a record distance for the European Championships (45.44 meters). The Scots delivered almost twice more shots on goal (19-10), although the Czechs hit the target much more often (7-4). An important role in the victory of Silgavy's team was played by the goalkeeper of Sevilla Tomas Vaclik, who made some brilliant saves. The victory over the Scottish national team strengthened the Czechs' chances of progressing from the group. If they gain at least one point in the matches against the Croats and the British, they will practically lock up a spot in the 1/8 finals.
The Croats have a slightly better chance of winning on the field in Glasgow. They showed a decent game at Wembley Stadium and lost because of only one mistake in defense. The finalists of the 2018 World Cup are capable of creating even more problems for the Czech defense than the unlucky Scots. The Czech national team has never beaten Croatia in their history (two draws and one defeat), and it is likely that this streak will continue in the next match. At the same time, the game will turn out to be tense. The Czechs played with Over 2.5 goals scored in only one of the last seven official matches. It happened in the March game against the Estonian national team in the 2022 World Cup qualification. The Croatian team is showing similar results. Over 2.5 goals scored took place in five out of six games in 2021. Therefore, we believe that the nominal hosts will at least not lose in this rather tense and low-scoring match.
