Chelsea faces Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup final. The match will be played on Wednesday, August 11th at Windsor Park (Belfast)
Last season Chelsea won the main trophy in Europe for the 2nd time in history. This happened largely thanks to the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, who became a head coach at the end of January instead of Frank Lampard. Having taken first place in the group, the Blues convincingly eliminated each of their opponents in the knockout rounds. On the way to the final, they defeated Atlético Madrid, Porto, and Real Madrid. And in the decisive match, Chelsea beat Manchester City thanks to a goal by Kai Havertz in the 42nd minute (1-0). Curiously, the Pensioners have not yet spent money on new players this summer. The only newcomer (ex-goalkeeper of Fulham, Marcus Bettinelli) has joined the team as a free agent. However, the situation may change in the coming days. Chelsea played four friendly games and didn’t suffer a single defeat before the start of the new season (three victories and one draw). The Blues dealt with Peterborough (6-1), Bournemouth (2-1), and Arsenal (2-1) and tied against Tottenham (2-2).

Villarreal delighted its fans with a triumph in the second largest European competition in the 2020/21 season. The Spaniards, who started from the group stage, went through the Europa League draw without defeats. After winning Group I, the Yellow Submarine eliminated Salzburg, Dynamo Kyiv, Dinamo Zagreb, and Arsenal London. In the final, Villarreal faced Man United and beat it only in the penalty shootout (1-1 and 11-10). There are two newcomers in the team so far, not counting defender Juan Foyth, who was bought from Tottenham and played for Villarreal on loan. Moreover, the Submarine signed a contract with the ex-defender of Betis Aissa Mandi and bought central striker Boulaye Dia from French Reims. Since mid-July, the Yellows have played six friendly matches but have not achieved a single victory (three draws and three losses). Villarreal tied against Lyon (2-2), Levante (0-0), and Leeds (2-2) and lost to Valencia (2-3), Marseille (1-2), and Leicester (2-3).
Chelsea has played four UEFA Super Cup matches but won only one trophy in 1998. And Villarreal will compete for it for the first time in history. Both teams have the motivation to add to the collection of awards, so they are unlikely to rush into the attack from the first minutes. As for Tuchel’s Chelsea, reliability in the penalty area is the most important thing, and Villarreal will try to play the same way as in the UEL final against Manchester United. For this reason, it is logical to assume that teams are unlikely to score more than one goal before the break.
Prediction for the match: Under 1.0 goal scored in the first half
