Bosnia & Herzegovina take on the visitors Portugal in the round 8 match of group stage of UEFA Euro-2024 qualification. The match will be played on Monday, October 16th at Bilino Polje (Zenica).
Bosnia and Herzegovina's footballers have completely failed in the Euro 2024 qualification campaign and haven't even put up much of a fight for the second spot in the group. The battle for a Euro spot is currently between Slovakia and Luxembourg. The Bosnians have little to boast about, except for their early trouncing of Iceland and two wins against the group's underdog, Liechtenstein, and these wins were not very convincing (2-1 and 2-0). On the road, the Blue-Yellows fell to the Vikings (0-1) and lost to both Luxembourg (0-2) and Slovakia (0-2). They were thoroughly defeated in Portugal. Most likely, there's a high probability that they won't even secure a point against the European Brazilians, even in their home match.

Portugal is progressing through the Euro qualification campaign without a single loss and can officially secure the top spot in the table in this round. Their lead over the trailing teams is too substantial. Seven matches, seven wins, 21 points, and a goal difference of 27-2. Moreover, until the recent match against Slovakia, the Portuguese had won all their Euro qualification games to nil, including their initial encounter with Bosnia and Herzegovina (3-0). It's clear that a draw would suffice for Roberto Martinez's squad in this match. However, I believe the European Brazilians are unlikely to deny themselves the pleasure of completing the entire qualification path to the Euro without dropping a single point.
The gap in class between the opponents is enormous. I believe that even the home-field advantage won't help Bosnia and Herzegovina avoid defeat against a Portugal of such caliber. The Blue-Yellows have had defensive issues, and even in matches against a hypothetical team like Liechtenstein, they face challenges in attack. They haven't managed to score against Luxembourg and Slovakia. Let alone Portugal. Therefore, in my opinion, the visitors will only need a few precise strikes for victory. This would mark their eighth consecutive victory in the current qualification campaign based on their class.
Prediction for the match: Portugal to win.
