Borussia Dortmund take on the visitors Union Berlin in the round 7 match of German Bundesliga. The match will be played on Saturday, October 7th at Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund).
Borussia (Dortmund) understands the opportunity it missed. The Black and Yellow are to blame themselves for the fact that the silver salad bowl remained in Bavaria, and they settled for the somewhat faded status of the vice-champions of Germany in the 2022/2023 season. Furthermore, after such a conclusion, both Jude Bellingham and Rafael Guerreiro departed. However, they probably couldn't have held on to Jude anyway, and they received a substantial fee from Real Madrid, which allowed them to conduct an active transfer campaign. Nevertheless, this didn't save them from problems. In the first six matches of the Bundesliga, the Hornets managed only two wins, against Bochum and Heidenheim, while settling for draws in the other four matches. In the UEFA Champions League, they started with a 0-2 loss to PSG in Paris. In the midweek, they hosted Milan, and again, failed to score, but they also kept a clean sheet, ending in a goalless draw.

The Iron Union, like many East German projects, found themselves on the fringes of German football after the reunification of the country. They spent the majority of subsequent years in the third division, and even dropped to the regional Oberliga level. When the capital club made it to the Bundesliga 1 through the playoffs, it seemed like they were just guests for a year. However, the newcomers secured an 11th place finish in their debut season, and within a year, under the guidance of Urs Fischer, they climbed four more positions, earning a spot in European competitions. The progress continued, and last season, while also performing decently in the Europa League (making it out of the group stage and eliminating Ajax, falling only in the round of 16 to another surprise team, Union Saint-Gilloise), they managed to win the battle for fourth place in the Bundesliga. At times during the season, they were even leading the table. However, they couldn't maintain those positions. Perhaps the burden of the Europa League, where the debutant came just short of a 0-0 draw in Madrid against Real, played a role (incidentally, they conceded in the 90+ minute against Bellingham!). This week, hosting Braga, history repeated itself. Yes, the match was more entertaining, but the outcome was the same: 2-3 due to a goal in added time after a thunderbolt from Moutinho. Furthermore, at their home arena, after starting with convincing victories in the cup as well as in the national championship (4-1 against Mainz and Darmstadt), they suffered defeats - against RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg, and Hoffenheim. Even Heidenheim, a tournament debutant, secured a victory in the previous round, scoring the only goal.
In the last five head-to-head matches, Borussia secured victory in four. However, a year ago, Union defeated the visitors from Dortmund in the capital. A victory is expected for the Hornets, but it's not guaranteed that they will score. We recommend betting on under 3.0 goals for this match.
Prediction for the match: Under 3.0. scored goals.
