Argentinos Juniors have slowed down in recent weeks. El Semillero del Mundo (The Seedbed of the World) earned its unique and prestigious unofficial name due to its ability to nurture talents, including Diego Maradona. However, their truly golden period was in the early 1980s, when they won a couple of league titles and their only triumph in the Copa Libertadores. But they followed it with a 0-1 loss to Banfield. Furthermore, they failed to score against the newcomer Instituto.
The teams played each other for the first time in the previous calendar year. Back then, the seasoned Primera team managed to win 3-1 on the field of the absolute debutant.
