Atletico Madrid welcome the visitors Celta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga – Round 29. The match will be held on Saturday, April, 13th, at the Wanda Metropolitano (Madrid).
The hosting Atletico Madrid have seemingly lost the tournament motivation this season. They competed very decently with Barcelona, playing shorthanded. Right after Diego Costa’s expulsion, Diego Simeone adjusted the scheme to 4-3-2, which was risky, as Barcelona play possession football, and surpassing by the number of players practically stands for a guaranteed win. Jan Oblak, Koke, and Saul Niguez especially standout in Atletico’s squad. Koke and Saul were great when the side lost the player, they fortified the center and helped the wingbacks to neutralize Jordi Alba, Coutinho, and Sergi Roberto (Malcolm afterwards). Simeone’s bold play is also worth noting. Clearly, his men had nothing to lose, but before the dismissal, their possession was 54%, which is an achievement. Barcelona’s win was not easy then. In the clash with Villarreal, the Catalans took a few minutes to score twice, whereas they failed to net to Atletico within 60 minutes, even though they powerplayed.

The visiting Celta Vigo boast quality performers, but their present campaign has been spoilt by the mess in the coaching post (Antonio Mohamed’s dismissal presents the greatest concern). The team’s main task now is to stay in the league. They are currently 17th in the table, outrunning Real Valladolid by a few points. Notably, the Galician club do not hope much for the coming clash. They say that Iago Aspas was intentionally booked to be zeroed out (and miss the encounter with Atletico) and to face the weaker opponents up in arms.
The hosts are to finish the season respectfully (preventing Real Madrid from ending ahead of them). This campaign, they lost only 2 matches on their soil and lead the table by home results (Barcelona outran them, but they have one spare game); moreover, Celta don’t seem to count on any points tomorrow. Considering the above, we’re betting on the hosts’ victory.
Prediction for the match: Atletico Madrid to win home.
