Arsenal welcome the visitors Tottenham Hotspur in the English Football League Cup – Quarter-finals. The match will be held on Wednesday, December 19th, at Emirates Stadium (London).
Arsenal’s no-loss streak of 22 rounds was broken in the match against Southampton where the Londoners suffered an annoying 3:2 defeat. Thus, the ‘Gunners’ continue to hold the 5th line of the league table, running 3 points behind Chelsea (with their mood spoilt for sure). The coming match will be held within the English Football League Cup, not the championship, so, we cannot expect both sides to play with their first elevens; this, however, does not mean the game will be passive and boring – the reserve teams, on the contrary, will look to show off. Thus, the players who performed well within the Europa League fixtures should be given special attention. Moreover, the EFL Cup is a great chance for Unai Emery to get the trophy in his first season, especially given that Arsenal play at home tomorrow.

Even though they don’t feature new players, Tottenham Hotspur still play outstanding football, fighting till the end. The team progressed to the Champions League knockouts, they sit in the top-three league table tiers, they continue their fight for the Cup (the ‘Spurs’’ calendar is tight indeed!), and they still go all-out. Tottenham’s bench is not staffed as well, as their opponent’s is, so, we may only guess the squad that Mauricio Pochettino will choose to play with. Anyways, no matter who the players are on Wednesday, Tottenham will score by all means.
The winner of the coming match are quite difficult to predict, but we expect goals by either side. For both teams, the Cup fixture is a good opportunity to finish the season with a trophy (chasing the top place in the league along with Liverpool and Manchester City is hardly possible). Arsenal have an advantage of the home pitch and the better bench strength. Tottenham cannot boast many great players, but the commitment of the team is amazing. The Emirates Stadium will most likely see a goal-pouring tomorrow.
Prediction for the match: Both teams to score.
