Armenia hosts Greece in round 9 of Euro qualification. The match will be played on Friday, November 15th at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium (Yerevan)
The failures of the Armenian team in recent matches led to a change of coach. Khashmanyan can “revive” his men, but he is unlikely to establish a game in the defense immediately. The failures of the defense line practically deprived the Reds of chances to get a ticket to the Euro. Armenia managed to keep a clean sheet in only one out of eight last qualification matches. And the goal conceded from Liechtenstein away was the most painful. In that meeting, the team of Khashmanyan decided to get the minimum advantage, for which it paid. Liechtenstein added in the second half and scored a well-deserved goal.

It would seem that the Greeks forgot the qualifying campaign for Euro 2016 as a nightmare (then they earned only 6 points). However, the Hellenes appear faded in new Euro qualifiers. Like several years ago, the national team’s defensive line is its weakest link. Greece kept a clean sheet only in the first round and conceded 13 goals in seven in subsequent matches (almost 2 goals per game, on average). Like the Armenian team, the Greeks managed to lose points in the match with Liechtenstein. Despite the clear superiority in the duel with the dwarf team, the Hellenes conceded just before the whistle and were content with a draw.
Given that the Finns are 5 points ahead of the third place and play with Liechtenstein at home, Armenia’s chances of taking the second line are purely mathematical, and Greece has zero chances at all. But it does not mean that the teams will not continue the fight. For example, the Greeks were well aware of the results of the Finland-Armenia match (the success of the Scandinavians buried their chances to get a ticket to the Euro), but they played zealously in the attack in the home game with Bosnia. As a result, Greece gained a well-deserved victory, having delivered as many as 25 shots on the opponent’s goal. In the previous match with the Armenians, the Greeks also arranged a total dominance and managed to score twice. In general, the Greeks did not succeed in scoring only the Finns and Italians, although they had attempts against the team of Mancini away. Armenia greatly played defense first in the last game with Greece, having managed to score three goals. Khashmanyan’s men are capable of scoring at least one goal at home. The Reds breached the defense of Italy and scored as many as four goals into the net of Bosnia. Therefore, I again expect an exchange of goals in a head-to-head match between Greece and Armenia. The teams played openly in the previous game, delivered as many as 35 shots on goal for two and scored five goals, in total.
Prediction for the match: Both teams to score - yes
