Anderlecht welcome the visitors Waasland-Beveren in the Belgian Jupiler League – Round 21. The match will be held on Thursday, December 27th, at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium (Anderlecht).
It can already be said for sure that Anderlecht have blatantly failed this campaign. In the Europa League, they took the last place in the group which was not too challenging, and they did not record a win there. In the Belgian Cup, the team dropped out yet at the 1/16 Finals stage, featuring a home hammering at the hands of the second division representative, 0:3. In their last five national league rounds, Anderlecht did not manage to win the middle-class opponents. Missing three goals to second-last team in the standings – it is too much. The hosts registered only one win in nine matches in different competitions. On their turf, they rack up points regularly indeed; but given their present form, no win by a margin of two goals can be expected. Bookmakers offer the 1.38 odds on the home side’s victory. Considering Anderlecht’s serious defense problems and their non-impressive record, this offer seems rather thoughtless. It might have looked good should the Thursday night opponent be in the same form, but Waasland-Beveren have been victorious in three consecutive rounds yet.

Were those the wins over outsiders? No, they weren’t. Waasland-Beveren have beaten Royal Antwerp (third-placed) away, Club Brugge KV (second-placed) at home. The present ‘Lions’’ placement results from their weak start to the season, but the situation improved after the appointment of the new manager. Having felt the taste of a win, the guests will not give up against Anderlecht. They allow same as the hosts, but they are gaining victories at least.
Getting out of crisis cannot happen by itself. If only Anderlecht had any wins lately, instead, they miss in almost each round. We don’t expect much of the coming encounter. The title record holders will most likely fail to win again, and the bet on the guests’ win with +1.5 handicap under the 1.83 odds seems a great option.
Prediction for the match: Waasland-Beveren to win with +1.5 handicap.
